Humber Gateway OFTO National Grid 160 September 2016

In order to achieve its commitment to deliver 20% of the country’s energy requirements from renewable sources by 2020, the UK Government developed the OFTO licensing regime to govern the ownership and operation of offshore electricity transmission assets. Licence holders take responsibility for the maintenance and operation of transmission assets in exchange for the right to earn a 20 year, RPI-linked, regulated revenue stream. The Humber Gateway wind farm is located in the UK North Sea, approximately 8km off the East Yorkshire coast. The OFTO consists of 73 3MW turbines with a maximum total generation capacity of 219 MW and it has been granted a perpetual licence by Ofgem, to be reviewed after an initial 20-year concession.

Thanet National Grid 165 February 2015

In February 2015, Equitix acquired an 80% stake of the Thanet Wind Farm from Balfour Beatty. The wind farm which is located c.12km off North Foreland Point in Kent, was developed by Vattenfall and was part of Round 1 of Ofgem’s procurement programme. The wind farm is comprised of 100 3MW wind turbine generators and associated transmission assets, 1 onshore substation, 1 offshore substations, 2 subsea cables and 2 onshore cables. The site occupies an area of 35km2. The project has been developed as part of the OFTO licensing regime to govern the ownership and operation of offshore electricity transmission assets in line with the UK Government’s commitment to deliver 20% of the country’s energy requirements from renewable sources by 2020.

The senior debt has been funded through a club of commercial banks. Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions are providing Operations & Maintenance.

Gwynt y Mor National Grid 346 February 2015

In February 2015, Equitix reached financial close on Gwynt-y-Môr OFTO alongside their concortium partner Balfour Beatty, having been appointed Preferred Bidder in 2013. The Wind Farm was developed by RWE Innogy and is located 13km to 15km off the coast of north Wales, from Penrhyn Bay in the west to Prestatyn in the east. It is part of Round 2a of Ofgem’s procurement programme. The wind farm comprises of 160 3.6MW wind turbine generators and associated transmission assets, covering an area of 79km2 ; 1 onshore substation; 2 offshore substations; 4 subsea cables and 4 onshore cables. The project has been developed as part of the OFTO licensing regime to govern the ownership and operation of offshore electricity transmission assets in line with the UK Government’s commitment to deliver 20% of the country’s energy requirements from renewable sources by 2020.

Senior debt has been funded through EIB and a club of commercial banks and Operations & Maintenance services are being provided by Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions.

In August 2014, Equitix acquired a 50% stake of this project from GDF Suez which is part of a portfolio which includes onshore wind farms across 7 sites in the UK located in Stirling, Cornwall, Cumbria, Dumfries & Galloway, Yorkshire, South Lanarkshire and Derbyshire. Maintenance & Lifecycle of the turbines is contracted to the turbine manufacturers and the management services are contracted to GDF Suez UK Wind Services.

Greater Gabbard National Grid 317 November 2013

Equitix achieved financial close on Greater Gabbard OFTO in November 2013 following construction and commissioning completion. Greater Gabbard was developed by SSE and RWE and is connected to a 504MW offshore windfarm which sits around 40km east of Harwich in the North Sea. The network comprises 2 Offshore Platforms; 3 subsea export cables; 1 Onshore Substation. The project has been developed as part of the OFTO licensing regime to govern the ownership and operation of offshore electricity transmission assets in line with the UK Government’s legal commitment to deliver 20% of the country’s energy requirements from renewable sources by 2020.

The senior debt has been funded through a Public listed bond with an EIB Project Bond Credit Enhancement (PBCE) product, the first of its kind in the OFTO sector. Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions are providing Operations & Maintenance.
